5 Reasons we Need Nutritional Reform
<<
Back
5. The average
child watches 5000 hours of television before the end of preschool
and has seen 19,000 hours by the end of high school. Watching
TV is second only to sleeping among children’s use of
time. On the average, children are exposed to one food commercial
every 5 minutes. During this study, the researchers noted
none of these commercials were promoting fruits and vegetables.
4. The average child will eat 15 pounds of cereal in a year.
3. In some school districts on Long Island, 50% of the kids
are taking medically prescribed amphetamines to control their
attention deficit disorder. The drugs they take are chemically
similar to cocaine and produce the same “high”
as cocaine. Some people refer to these drugs as “pediatric
cocaine” since it’s given to children as young
as 3 years old.[102.30]
2. The average child drinks 3-6 cans of soft drinks per day.
To a 60 pound child, this is the equivalent to a 175 pound
adult drinking 8 cups of coffee per day. [3]
1. Only 7% of our children eat the recommended 2 fruits and
3 vegetable servings each day….and that’s if you
count French Fries as 25% of the vegetables consumed. [155] |
