Change your focus
People naturally avoid things that are painful and do
things they find pleasure in. If you associate junk food
with the immediate pleasure, it will be hard to resist.
If you associate eating the junk food with how bad you
will feel afterwards, you will overlook the cake. But
your mind will always play tricks on you to get what it
wants. Gently bring your attention to other things such
as your favorite hobby.
Don’t focus on the pain of preparing a meal, rather
focus on how the quality of the meal will positively affect
your mood in the ensuing hours.
When you are too tired to exercise, focus on how good
you will feel after exercising. Don’t focus on the
pain of the exercising itself.
Focus on the pleasure of the “runners high”
that you get from a good work out rather than the pain
of getting up off the couch.
During food addictions, people usually only remember the
sugar boost and forget the sugar low. Associate bad food
with feeling bad. Who likes to feel bad?
Keep
a personal food diary
Writing down what food you eat is a great way to
get a birds eye view of how much food you are actually
eating throughout the day.
