Sleep is not a waste of time
Sleep is used to repair and rejuvenate your body in preparation for the next day. The better you sleep, the better you will feel the next day.

The brain never shuts off
Sleep is an active process considering you are oblivious to what is going on around you while sleeping. Even when you are asleep, some parts of the brain are still working at 80% of maximum capacity.
